Research

Our team is working to develop an understanding of the current risk management and legal landscapes relating to hemp production.  We will share research-based information and training on legal issues, community, and environmental concerns, and train stakeholders, farmers, landowners, Extension, state officials, and legal professionals on best practices for risk management related to crop insurance and legal concerns for hemp producers.

Risk Management

Producers considering hemp for the first time or after growing previously are faced with questions about how to manage risks in the production.  Producers may not understand all the new crop insurance tools that exist to manage risks in hemp production.  Long-term research still needs to be done to analyze the best ways to manage these risks in hemp production.

Legal Landscape

Producers need to understand the possible implications of production contracts used in hemp production.  As this industry continues to develop, growers and processors need to understand how to develop contracts that protect both parties’ interests.
